Greenkeeper's Report
Work program commencing Monday 14th September: - Trim around greens sprinklers
- Prepare temporary greens and cut a hole ready for maintenance week
- Water new trees and shrubs
- Sorrel roll greens
- Spray wetting agent on greens (helps make the water work better in the soil and stop dry patch)
- Spray fertiliser on the greens (helps make the grass plant stronger and healthier ready for maintenance week)
- Spray dew dispersant on the greens (stops a dew forming on the greens, this is very good for maintenance week, ground conditions have to be dry to do the work more effectively)
- Spray fertiliser on aprons and tees
- Change tines on spiker (install hollow tines ready for maintenance week)
- Greens dressing is being delivered this week ready for maintenance week (cover dressing)
- Raise height of cut to 4mm later in the week (this will help take the stress off the grass plant and make it stronger and healthier ready for maintenance week) the greens speed will slow up considerably
Work done: It's been another busy week preparing the course to the highest standard for the Club Championship. A big thank you to the greenstaffs dedication and hard work over the last 2 weeks (without a day off) to get the course to where it is today. I’m sure you will agree the course looked amazing from tee to green (we all hope you enjoyed it). - G.U.R bare areas around the greens
- Seeded and topped up drain lines on 3rd green area
- Sprayed fertiliser on greens (helps make the grass plant stronger and healthier against diseases)
- Sorrel rolled greens once
- Seeded and top dressed 8th tee
- Seeded and divoted tees (thank you volunteers)
Last week I said I would explain what work will be done in maintenance week and also work planned for fairway maintenance. Maintenance week (week commencing Monday 21st September) this work is weather dependant: - Hollow tine the greens (depth 3inches with 8mm diameter tines)
- Clear up the hollow tine cores (we have hired a core collector)
- Scarify the greens (depth 12mm)
- Clear up the thatch with brushes and backpack blowers
- Cut greens
- Top dress greens (we will be looking to apply 30tonnes total over all the greens) this may have to be done in two hits depending how the dressing goes into the grass sward and tine holes
- Brush the top dressing in with our sweep and fill brush and also sorrel rollers
- Irrigate the greens over night to help wash the top dressing into the grass sward
- Fertilise the greens with a granular feed to help recovery
There will be temporary greens when work is being done on the greens (please be patient) If we have anymore time we will look to scarify the worst aprons and tees. Fairway maintenance (week commencing Monday 5th October) this work is weather dependant: - We hope to scarify all the fairways (fairway scarifier hired)
- Blow and brush up thatch from scarifying
- Cut fairways
- Seed and top dress worst fairways (4th hole and 16th hole)
- Feed all the fairways with a liquid feed to help recover
- If we have anymore time we will scarify the worst fairways again
Please give way to greenstaff when work is being done Enjoy your golf!! Peter Connett (Head Greenkeeper)
