Hello again golfers.
Ask most golfers what the biggest difference is between a scratch golfer and tour pro and besides the bank balance they'll tell you it's the short game. If you're going to work on anything over the winter then head to the short-game area. Yes, a solid long game and the ability to hit big, booming drives is something we all want, but you can save so many shorts developing a better touch around the greens - and this applies to the single figure golfers out there, too.
Some of the industry's leading brands are doing their utmost to help us improve our short games, which leads us to ask you this question: Have you ever been fitted for your wedges? If the answer is no, you could have gaps in your bag, not to mention lofts and lies that will hinder, not help, your game from 120 yards and in.
Speak to us about a wedge fitting; seriously, you won't regret it…

COURSE REPORT OCTOBER 2014
As the golfing season comes to a close we are preparing the winter work schedule.
The main activity will be to improve the drainage on the course. Mole draining will take place on the 4th, 5th and 15th fairways by an outside contractor in November. Other areas which will receive attention are around the 9th, the 11th, and 14th greens, and between the men's 15th tee and the start of the fairway. Work will also be carried out on the bunker to the left of the 4th fairway.
All fairways will be verti-drained in early November. This operation is carried out annually.
Ditches will be cleared to assist in the drainage of the course.
We have been recommended by our agronomist to reduce the number of trees to the left of the 14th green to let more light and air to the green as it is generally the wettest on the course. The sycamore trees will be taken out. Work has already started in this area. Other sycamore trees will be taken out where appropriate.
It is appreciated that the bunkers are poor as they are old and the drainage is inadequate. They are costly to maintain in terms of replenishing the sand and the number of man hours to look after them. We are taking professional advice this Autumn to improve the situation. It would be appreciated if rakes can be left with the head in the bunker, and the handle just protruding outside.
Work on improving the paths will continue.
Areas on the course are to be cleared so that wild flowers can flourish, such as on the 18th tee, behind the 11th, towards 14th tee, and by the side of the 15th tee.
I and the greenkeepers would like to thank Mike Hankey for his continual support, and generosity. He has given so much to the club and we all benefit with the wild flowers, and the fruit and vegetables that he tends with so much care.
WINTER RULES will become operational from NOVEMBER 1st. A list of these rules will be posted on the noticeboard.
