Greens work When work is being done on the greens it can be disruptive, making the putting surface uneven and ball speed slower. Trying to fit this work in around our busy playing calendar with competitions, matches and society s can be hard at times (please be patient) More work has been done on the greens this week as the top dressing and granular fertiliser has now gone into the grass sward. We can now start to use the turf iron, this will help give a better playing surface and start to speed the greens up.
Here is some information of what work we have done this week on the greens... - Monday/ Greens cut - Tuesday/ Greens cut (stimping at 7ft 2) - Wednesday/ Greens cut and turf ironed (stimping at 8ft) - Thursday/ Greens cut and turf ironed (stimping at 8ft 10) - Friday/ Greens cut (plan was to double cut and turf iron) rain stopped that happening - Saturday/ Greens double cut and turf ironed (stimping at 9ft 2) Work being done on the greens in the next few weeks
- Greens will be verti cut and groomed. The grass sward is starting to thicken up and poa seeding is getting worse. While this work is being done the greens speed will slow down and the playing surface will become a little uneven. This is important work to be done to help thin the grass sward out and reduce the seed heads, by doing this it will help give a better putting surface and speed the greens up - More double cutting and turf ironing will be done when needed to help give a good ball speed - Wetting agent will be sprayed. This is done as a program every 4-5 weeks. It makes the water work better in the soil and help stop the greens drying out - Root developer will be sprayed to encourage more root growth and make the the roots stronger - Spike (8mm solid tines)
