Greenkeepers report Work being done week commencing Monday 7th January - Mark fairways out - Spike greens/ tees/ aprons (when the part gets delivered to fix the spiker) - Put top soil on the chipping green bank (where the fur tree was felled) - G.U.R bare areas around greens - Brush par 3 tee mats - Finish topping up cockle shell paths (13th and 15th) - Spike fairways and thin areas - Start work on new 16th green bunkers (re shape and make them like the bunkers on the main course) - Continue lifting low sprinklers on greens Work done over Christmas - Turf hardener and dew dispersant was sprayed on the greens (by spraying these products it will help stop disease) - 15th path by the men’s yellow tee was railed and topped up with cockle shells. Triangular area will be planted with a wild flower mix. Next winter a stone wall will be built and the rest of the path back towards the 14th green will be railed. We have now run out of cockle shells so the rest of the 15th path and 13th path will be topped up with CRUSHED scallop shells - Greens were turf ironed on Wednesday as they were very foot printed from the wet weather. It did a very good job of levelling out the footprints and making the surface a lot better to putt on (more turf ironing will be done when required) - Continuing spiking of the fairways is being done and this will help with recovery from the hard summer Winter work is going well. The weather is being a great help, may it continue. Work done - All banks levelled out and ditches filled in (areas turfed) - New bank built on the 10th hole - New trees and gorse planted - 14th ditch cleared of over-hanging branches - Fur trees on 17th hole and chipping green felled (all branches burnt) - 4th bank by the green tidied up and new trees planted on the bank - 17th bank by Greenkeeper shed cleared and hedge row trees planted - Area below 4th/15th path tidied up - All long grass areas cut - Tree by veg plot felled - Lots of spiking being done - Paths tidied and topped up with shells (1, 4, 8, 9, half 15th and 18th done) - Cut low hanging branches on trees around the 13th green - Install matting for winter path on the 15th hole - Replace broken irrigation boxes (a couple more to do) - Lift low sprinklers on greens (lots more to do) Work still to do - Cut laurel hedge in main carpark - Lift low sprinklers on greens - Re-shape and build new bunkers on the new 16th green - Improve some bunker faces (6th and 9th) - Drain 4th and 8th bunkers - Build steps on 9th tee - Clear hedges on 4th hole (gap ways in front of tees) - Finish tidying and topping up paths with shells - Burn branch pile below 4th path - Continue to do spiking of greens/ tees/ aprons and fairways Peter Connett (Head Greenkeeper)
