Golf Club MOT When was the last time you gave your clubs a service? Over 90% of club members have never had their loft and lies checked on any of their clubs, considering that a forged club head can move up to 3 degrees a year, this is quite worrying. For those of you who are unfamiliar with loft and lie angles; Loft angles are expressed in degrees with respect to vertical rather than the ground. A high-lofted club, such as a sand wedge would have a loft somewhere about 55-degrees. The lie is the angle formed between the center of the shaft and the sole, or ground line, of the club when the club is soled in its proper playing position (as at address). If the lie angle of the club is not matched up to your swing, this can cause poor offline shots even if you put a good swing on it due to the wrong part of the club making contact with the ground first. If the loft angle on the clubs is off, you may see yourself having a lot of trouble with distance control, always going long or short. To check your loft and lies, drop your clubs into us in the shop and for a small fee of £5 we will do any adjustments that need to be made.

Big Phil takes the bragging rights The long-awaited match between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson took place last week and, with a combined 19 Majors between them, sparks were expected to fly. Las Vegas was an apt setting for the winner-takes-all event, and there was drama right up to the very last, as Big Phil came away with the $9m prize on the fourth extra hole after Woods had forced a play-off when he chipped in on the 17th. Whilst the quality of golf wasn't quite up to what we expected, it was certainly a unique way of playing the game and could even be done again in the future - get in touch and let us know your thoughts! Elsewhere, the European Tour got underway at the Hong Kong Open, with Englishman Aaron Rai fending off a strong challenge from compatriot Matthew Fitzpatrick to win his first title on the tour. Fitzpatrick was within touching distance, but a bogey on the 17th allowed Rai to take the victory on -17, with Fitzpatrick one shot further back. The Belgian pair of Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry secured the World Cup of Golf event down under in Australia over the weekend. The Belgian bombers finished three shots ahead of the home favourites Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith, and sealed victory for the first time for their nation.

Green Keepers Report Work being done week commencing Monday 26th November… - Plant trees/gorse (providing they get delivered this week).
- Drain 4th right hand bunker (this continues to flood when weather conditions are bad. A drain will be dug, piped, stoned and a sump will be dug out of the bunker).
- Clear and tidy hedge below 4th shelter (same work as done on the hedge by the 4th green).
- Spray preventative fungicide on the greens (stops fusarium disease and helps with anthracnose disease).
- Tidy 4th/16th paths (Strim edges of path replace any broken wooden rails and top up path with cockle shells).
- Finish spiking all fairways and thin walk ways.
- Brush tee mats on par 3 tees.
- Finish work on driving range tee.
- Trim bunker edges and check sand levels on practice bunker.
- Mix up compost with top soil on new gorse areas.
- Lift low greens sprinklers.
Work done last week… - Fir tree by 17th green was felled. Tree surgeon will be back either this week or the following week. The fir tree by the chipping green will then be felled. All the branches will be burnt when work is done.
- New part of the 4th path was built. Path will be topped up with shells this week.
- Fairways and thin walk way spiking was started this week. All spiking will be finished this week.
- When the areas have settled down they will be spiked again.
- All new gorse areas have been prepared. Compost will be mixed with the top soil. Areas will then be ready to plant gorse when gorse is delivered. When the gorse is planted the area will be fenced off to protect the plant.
- Bare areas on the driving range tee were turfed. Tee will be over seeded, top dressed and fertilised this week. Tee will be fenced off when work is done (this will give the grass time to recover).
Most indoor work is held back while weather conditions are good to work on the course. Work to do when weather is bad… - Service machinery.
- Tidy work sheds/ mess hut/ toilet and shower facilities.
- Maintenance on course furniture (paint tee markers, paint hole cups, paint benches etc.)
- In house staff training.
- Fix broken machinery/ tools.
- Sharpen chainsaw chains.
- Repair punchers in tyres/ broken sprinklers.

In the past, golf clothing has had the reputation of being “for the golf course” with a call to the fashion police needed if you were to wear it anywhere else. Thankfully, times have changed, and we now have a vast selection of fashionable pieces in-store that you’ll be able to confidently wear both on and off the golf course.
|
We know some of you are still wearing your baggy golf jacket from years gone by, so here's our suggestion to replace it: Galvin Green's Lance jacket. |
If you're shopping on the high street, you'll want an array of options to choose from. Well, this jacket is available in seven colours so there's something to suit all golfers. |
Its stylish design means it can be worn both on and off the course, whilst INTERFACE-1 fabric is windproof, water repellent and highly breathable for maximum comfort. |
