One length irons
Now I’m not sure about you guys, but I’m a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to golf clubs. I like to have a set of irons progressing in length as you move up to your 5/4 iron. However, the more I see Bryson Dechambeau not only playing the one length irons, but winning 5 PGA tour events with them, the more curious I become to see how they could improve my game! He uses a set of irons that are all the same length, same lie, same swing weight and same total weight, which has never been heard of before. Cobra made him his own iron range of called the ‘one length’ range, which he uses to much success. If you haven’t heard of Bryson or his one length irons, have a little look at this link: https://www.cobragolf.com/one-length-irons this could be the answer to all your long irons.

Winter Competitions Programme
As we approach our Winter competitions the Competitions Committee would like to thank all competitors in the Summer Knockouts for their diligence in completing all the rounds by their end dates.
Now turning our attention to the following 5 months there are some changes to our traditional calendar.
• Firstly, there will be no singles qualifying competitions throughout December to February 2019. This is in anticipation of adverse weather conditions causing a 15-hole temporary course.
• Secondly, in view of the above, the Winter League will have a different format and an entry sheet for this competition has been placed on the noticeboard. This explains all the rules and we hope for a good entry.
• Finally, all the Winter Knockouts will be posted in September for an October draw.
Winter League
The draw for the winter league has now been made, the list of fixtures and tables are up at the golf club. All matches are to be played by January 31st.
Winter Knockouts
Entry for the winter knockouts is now open and on the board at the golf club. Get your name down to keep your game sharp this winter!

Green Keepers report
Work being done week commencing Monday 5th November: - Agricultural contractor cutting holes 10/12/13 boundary hedges - Raise height of cut on greens from 4.5mm to 5mm (This will help protect the grass sward going into the winter) - Raise height of cut on aprons/ tees from 8mm to 10mm - Reshape/ enlarge some of the greens - Change tines on the spiker from tees/ aprons tines to greens tines. Grease and check spiker - Look at areas on the course to plant trees and gorse (Order trees and gorse) - Cut long areas of grass with club flail where contractor could not do - Finish trimming and checking sand levels in bunkers (Holes 1,2,5 left) - Strim practise area entrance and carpark area - Fertilise greens (To cold last week) - Spray seaweed and energiser on greens - Spray Glysophate on all cockleshell paths - Finish levelling banks etc (Once work is done all areas will be turfed) Last week all greens were sprayed with fungicide to help prevent fusarium disease and also help with anthracnose disease. Back of the 13th green has been left to grow to aprons height to help with reducing stress on the grass plant as anthracnose disease hit that green hard. Once the green has recovered the height of cut will be lowered back to greens height 5mm some of the greens will be reshaped/ enlarged this week. By reshaping/ enlarging the greens it will visually make them look better and also make more hole positions. Peter Connett (Head Greenkeeper)
