Ryder Cup Well what a fantastic edition of the Ryder cup it was. The Europeans wore their heart on their sleeves as they always do to thrash the Americans 17 ½ - 10 ½. What I thought was most impressive of all was how the Europeans kept the ball on the fairway, giving them a huge advantage over the long hitting wild Americans. It really does show you the importance of playing from the short stuff! If you would like to gain the same advantage the highest scoring pairing in the history of the Ryder cup Moliwood did (Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood), come and see us in the shop to get your driver fitting!
A helping hand for Kieron Fowler
Dear members of Lyme Regis Golf Club,
First of all I would like to thank every single one of you for making me feel like a true part of this fantastic golf club, from day one I have had nothing but support and encouragement which has been a huge help through my degree, which I have now passed and am a fully qualified PGA Professional!
Now I have my degree, I believe it is time to follow my dream of becoming a full time player. Before my time at Lyme Regis, I had a respectful playing career and I believe I have some unfinished business in that department.
As it stands now with working 40 plus hours a week, I cannot expect to be competitive in today’s golfing world. I want to be able to have a proper go for a year and then at the end of the year I will have a good idea of where my game stands.
I am writing this to approach you, the members of Lyme Regis for a helping hand along my way. My plan is to come out of the Pro shop to practice and play full time, but to do this I will need financial help. I have had some interest from a few members who are very keen to help out. I am looking at 2 options, both adding up to £1000 a month. One option is to raise as much as I can in one go trying to raise the whole £12,000, the other is to go monthly and raise the £1000 each month (e.g. 40 members paying £25 a month).
If possible, the preferred option would be to have the whole amount up front so that I can confidently know that I am covered for 12 months. If I can achieve donations from members to meet the required £12,000 I can have this put into an account which can then be controlled by someone who can release the funds at an amount of £1000 per month. I will still make time for coaching and to help around the pro shop and golf club so that I am still working and contributing myself financially, but the main idea is for me to spend as much time as possible on my game.
For all that get involved, there will be benefits depending on the amount donated, so rest assured you will be getting something for your money. If you are interested in helping out, please either come and find me to have a chat, or send an email to kieronfowler@hotmail.com.
Thank you for taking the time to read,
Kieron Fowler |
Winter Is Coming! Now that winter is upon us, we see the pro shop change from a sea of t shirts, shorts and sun cream to mittens, woolly hats and hand warmers. We have tried to stock the shop with all your winter needs but it is always a hard one as we saw with what happened with the weather last year.
New equipment in-store
The time has come for the one of the best feeling brands on the market to release some new products and boy are we excited. Introducing the Stunning new JPX919 iron range from Mizuno and the best thing, we have them in demos meaning you can try all 3 of these models completely free of charge!
|
The JPX range has been a huge success on tour (three majors from Brooks Koepka alone over the past year and a half with the JPX900 Tour) and in pro shops, but it’s two years old now so they’re being replaced by in our view, some of the best looking irons Mizuno has ever made, they’re called JPX919.
JPX919 Tour
The JPX919 Tour promises tour-calibre performance with precision distance control. It's a more compact, streamlined evolution of Mizuno’s JPX900 Tour iron from 2017/18, which helped re-establish Mizuno as the iron of choice on Tour among both contracted and non-contracted players. Grain Flow Forged HD (High Density) from a single billet of 1025E Pure Select mild carbon steel in Hiroshima Japan, the JPX919 Tour offers the softest, purest Mizuno feel yet.
JPX919 Forged
A new reverse-milled clubface, CNC-milled from the sole up creates a larger area of minimum face thickness, making the streamlined JPX919 Forged Mizuno’s fastest ever forged iron. The weight removed from the face allows a lower, deeper centre of gravity making it easier to flight long and mid-irons. Mizuno’s trademark workability and elevated Grain Flow Forged HD feedback ensure the JPX919 Forged is also Mizuno’s most versatile iron.
JPX919 Hot Metal
The JPX919 Hot Metal is the most forgiving of the three models and provides a benchmark in iron design. Engineered for the perfect blend of ball speed and soft, controllable landing angles. High-strength Chromoly 4140M has paved the way to a new multi-thickness face that promotes astonishing ball speeds, while a seamless one-piece cup face construction ensures surprising levels of feedback even at fast ball speeds.

YONEX EZONE ELITE 2
Octaforce Neo Technology
Driver and Woods - Octaforce Neo technology in the face of the driver and woods results in a 10% larger sweet spot than in the previous model, essential for golfers who do not always hit in the middle of the club. The crown also features an updated, lighter octagon design, which creates a lower centre of gravity and also flexes to provide higher trajectory and faster initial velocity, both of which maximize distance.
Irons - In addition to a large head size, Octaforce technology in the irons produces both a lower centre of gravity and a higher repulsion face, assisting in high, accurate shots.
Face Polish
Driver - Traditionally, face polishing is performed in a horizontal direction, but the driver adopts a new vertical polish. A design that eliminates the need for grooves on the face whilst improving shot accuracy off the tee. Fairway woods and Hybrids - Fairway woods and hybrids feature a slanted groove face design that prevents grass and moisture from coming between the club face and the ball, helping to stabilize the ball flight by reducing left and right side-spin for improved accuracy. We have the EZONE ELITE Driver, woods and irons available for free trials in the shop!

Driver Golf Charity Day
This past Saturday 6th October we held the Driver golf day in memory of Roger Driver and in aid of The Seaton and District hospital league of friends. The weather was not kind to us on this occasion with the first attempt being cancelled and the re arranged date having some of the coldest and wettest weather we have had in some time. However, we still had a lot of players participate and some even played 18 in the worst of it. Although the conditions were bad, we still had some good scores out there with the winners coming in with a fantastic score of 95 (below are the full list of scores which were in the prizes).
1st place: M Cottam, J Matthews, M Morgan, S. Baker 95 points 2nd place: C Bond, S Bond, A Kenworthy, H Kenworthy 94 points 3rd place: P Rae, J Hodgetts, M Lee, G Williams 93 points 4th place: D Jones, B Cable, T Peadon, T Daniel 93 points 5th place: P Courts, T Harley, C Baker, B Edmunds 92 points 6th place: G Greenslade, P Clode, S Berry, M Cox 92 points 7th place: P Liston, M Colley, R Clapp, M Brotherton 91 points
We managed to raise in excess of £4,000 to the most amazing of charities which without all of you would not have been possible. To everyone that played, sponsored and helped out on the day, Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Captains drive in
The Captains Drive in is on the 14th October which is a shotgun start at 08.30. Following the shot gun start we will have the drive in. We hope to see you all there to invite the new captains (Gareth Williams men and Kathy Briggs ladies) into their new roles, the best of luck to both captains.
Winter Competitions Programme
As we approach our Winter competitions the Competitions Committee would like to thank all competitors in the Summer Knockouts for their diligence in completing all the rounds by their end dates.
Now turning our attention to the following 5 months there are some changes to our traditional calendar.
• Firstly, there will be no singles qualifying competitions throughout December to February 2019. This is in anticipation of adverse weather conditions causing a 15-hole temporary course.
• Secondly, in view of the above, the Winter League will have a different format and an entry sheet for this competition has been placed on the noticeboard. This explains all the rules and we hope for a good entry.
• Finally, all the Winter Knockouts will be posted in September for an October draw.
Men’s Sunday Competitions As of Sunday 4th November the Men’s Sunday competitions will resort back to online booking. For those that do not know their log in details please contact the office.
We recommend using the ‘BRS Golf’ free app which is easy to navigate around to book times, if you can no longer play in the competition please remove your name and then you’re playing partners will automatically be alerted.
If you are a leader of a group, who book for others you are reminded you can still do this but through booking at the Pro Shop.
Please remember you can only book 3 weeks in advance, no longer!

Sometimes it's nice to reminisce about the good times. When it comes to golf, the days of persimmon woods, small clubheads and hitting balls which were hard as a rock are long gone - but it can help to take a trip down memory lane to remind us of just how much technology has developed, particularly in the case of drivers. |
Time tunnel
Take Lynx for example; you might have been lucky enough to own its revolutionary Predator II driver way back in 2004. A relatively tiny 380cc clubhead meant the Predator II was possibly one of the most intimidating clubs on the market - which made it even sweeter when you crushed one right down the middle. Fast-forward to the present day, and Lynx has released its most technologically advanced driver to date in the form of #BB. It features a forgiving 460cc headshape, as well as sliding 3g weights which can be adjusted to help you find your ideal ball flight. So, whilst it is nice to think about your first ever driver, it's probably time to get up to speed with the latest models such as the #BB. Who knows? Maybe in another 10 years time, you'll be looking back on the #BB with as much fondness as the Predator II! |
